Shinsen-Subs has graced us once more with another release of Bakumatsu. The first half of this episode delved more into the pasts of Kanna and Akizuki, while the latter was much more action oriented. The animation has noticibly dropped a bit in some parts, especially when closeups were involved. Perhaps a different animation studio has taken over? Regardless, the battle BGM and sound effects are still spectacular, so I’ll live. We learn that Kanna was born in London and is the son of a British Navy Admiral, while his mother was the highest ranking prostitute at the finest brothel in Yoshiwara. We also learn that out of all of Shiu Phu’s descendents and three thousand young boys and girls, only one is given the “Moontear Sword”, the katana which Akizuki wields. Wielders of this sword are named the “Eternal Assassin”, forever hunting the Lord’s Head in order to seal it.
